PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE OF
MANUFACTURING IN DETROIT
THE DRAWING WAS A COLLABORATION BETWEEN MY COLLEAGUE (Stephan Karetnik) and I. The drawing was made to represent manufacturing in Detroit in the Past, Present & Future. The drawing is a 60" x 20" drawing made over 3 days of work for each of us where each person took a corner and met at the middle as we merged together. The drawing was inspired by Diego Rivera's work in the DIA and morphs his ideal image of Detroit into what we saw could be possible in Detroit eventually with it becoming a technological hub. In the drawing, the phasing of the human from a blue collar worker to a white collar worker in the factory is shown clearly, and the eventual phase out of the human is also shown as the human becomes a programmer and technology takes the grunt of the physical work.
