ACOUSTIC SHELL:
Located in the in the center of the Latvian forest, Acoustic shell gains inspiration
from the tree canopy above it. Carved into a two-way wood structure is a pair of
are local CNC birch wood parabolic forms. These forms are designed for a
person to sit and meditate for long periods as they direct the sounds of the surrounding
forest on the ears of the user. In the same wood structure is a small living space made
to hold a person for five days. A glass roof, made to attract the eyes of the user
to the views from where the sounds are coming, covers the living space; while
mirrors covers the outside walls so only the skeleton of the cabin would be revealed to the user.
The removal of the mirrors and furniture would mark the end of the life of the cabin,
allowing the same skeleton to remain for a short period of time before
it decays back into the ground.
